MONTSERRAT (2025)

*Currently in Post-Production*

James Cunningham's short film MONTSERRAT is a portrait of the Australian immigrant experience as seen through the eyes of a lonely tradesman played by actor Wilson Bazurto.

MONTSERRAT offers a poignant and introspective portrait of the Australian immigrant experience, encapsulated through the daily life of a solitary tradesman. Featuring a delicate performance by Ecuadorian actor and model Wilson Bazurto, the film reveals the quiet existence of Montserrat, a young man whose life is marked by routine and loneliness. Dressed in his ubiquitous hi-vis yellow or orange uniform, Montserrat's days blend into one another as he navigates mundane tasks in his mostly empty house. The film's intimate cinematography captures a rare glimpse into the life of a man overlooked by society.

Through meticulously captured moments, MONTSERRAT explores themes of loneliness and an immigrant's struggle to find a sense of belonging in a foreign land. Cunningham's film stands out for its intellectual and emotional depth, drawing viewers into Montserrat's world with a subtle, yet powerful narrative. The film's minimalist approach and Bazurto's performance creates not just a story about one man but a universal exploration of human loneliness and the search for connection in an over-connected and often indifferent world.
