Two Lead Roles for Upcoming Australian Short Film
TITAN is a thought-provoking science-fiction drama, written by award-winning Australian filmmaker James Cunningham, that explores the fragile boundaries between humanity and technology, grief and companionship, and ethics and innovation.
Set in a near-future world where mass human cloning is a reality, the story follows Ethan, a grieving widower, as he navigates life after the loss of his wife, herself a pioneering scientist in cloning technology. Desperate for connection, Ethan signs up for a trial of TITAN, a next-generation clone assistant. As Titan, the stoic yet eerily-human clone, integrates into Ethan’s life, effectively as his servant, the two form an unlikely bond. Featuring a minimalist futuristic aesthetic and emotionally charged performances, their relationship is tested as Ethan grapples with his grief, ethical dilemmas, and the unsettling realisation that Titan may be more than just a clone.
Inspired by films such as Spike Jonze's Her (2013), Alex Garland's Ex Machina (2014), Josh Janowicz's Like Like (2019) and recently Drew Hancock's Companion (2025). Through intimate conversations, shared routines, and moments of vulnerability, James Cunningham's TITAN is an exploration of loneliness, the literal nature of humanity, and the moral implications of creating life to serve.
